About travelling from Kamloops Airport (YKA) to Sun Peaks Resort, BC
Sun Peaks is one of British Columbia’s best all-season mountain resorts — big enough to explore for days, but still relaxed and easy to get around. Located about 45 minutes from Kamloops, it’s Canada’s second-largest ski area, with over 4,000 acres of terrain spread across three mountains: Tod, Sundance, and Morrisey. Each mountain has its own feel — from wide-open groomers and high-speed cruisers to tree skiing, mellow glades, and rolling powder runs. The snow is famously light and dry, typical of BC’s interior.
The village is purpose-built but charming, sitting right at the base of the slopes with genuine ski-in/ski-out access from most hotels. The resort has a friendly, low-key vibe — less glitz than Whistler, but just as functional. For après, Bottoms Bar & Grill is the long-time local favourite, while Masa’s Bar + Grill and 5Forty Café & Grill are easy-going spots for burgers and beers. For dinner, Voyageur Bistro offers Canadian cuisine with local ingredients, and Mantles Restaurant & Lounge is a solid choice for something a bit more upscale. Vertical Café and Bolacco Café are your early-morning stops for coffee and breakfast before first chair.
In summer, Sun Peaks transforms into a mountain playground with hiking, mountain biking, golf, and lake trips nearby. The bike park is one of Canada’s best, with lift-accessed trails for all levels. There’s also an 18-hole golf course that winds through the base of the mountains, and regular festivals and farmers markets that keep the village lively through July and August.
Kamloops Airport (YKA) is the closest airport to the resort with flights provided by West Jet, Alaska and Air Canada to major cities across Canada like Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal and Toronto as well as Los Angeles and Seattle in the USA.
