About travelling from Vancouver International Airport (YVR) to Sun Peaks Resort, BC

Sun Peaks Resort is 420 km (261 miles), about 4 hours 45 minutes by road. The route heads east on Highway 1 to Hope, crosses the Coquihalla Highway to Kamloops, then turns north for the final climb up Sun Peaks Road. YVR is BC’s main international gateway, so many visitors from overseas and across North America land here, then either take a connecting flight to Kamloops or travel the rest of the way by road.

Ridebooker offers a shuttle bus from YVR to Sun Peaks departing once a day, which is the budget option for solo travellers and couples. It’s a long trip, so if you’re arriving on an international flight, leave plenty of time after landing to clear customs and collect your bags.

A private transfer will be timed to your flight arrival and take you straight to your hotel or condo. Vehicles range from a luxury sedan for couples, an SUV for families with luggage or a 10, 11 and 14 passenger van for larger groups bringing extra luggage like ski bags, golf clubs or bikes.

The Coquihalla is the part of the journey to plan around. The highway climbs to over 1,200m at its summit and sees heavy snowfall through the winter, and storms or collisions can slow traffic or close it for a few hours. Winter tires are required on the Coquihalla from October 1 to April 30. Booking with Ridebooker means a professional driver who know the route handles it for you, at a fixed price agreed before you travel.

If you’d rather fly the rest of the way, direct flights from YVR to Kamloops Airport (YKA) take about an hour, and there is a scheduled shuttle bus to Sun Peaks from YKA.
