People often ask

Not really. The village is compact and walkable. Most accommodation is ski in/ski out and an in resort shuttle runs between neighbourhoods in winter.

Sun Peaks is 410 km (255 miles) from downtown Vancouver, about 4,5 hours by road via Hope, the Coquihalla Highway and Kamloops. Allow extra time in winter, when snow on the Coquihalla can slow traffic.

It depends on your group and luggage. Flying from Vancouver International Airport (YVR) to Kamloops Airport (YKA) takes about an hour, plus an hour by road to the resort. Driving takes around 4.5 hours, and in winter means crossing the Coquihalla. A private transfer will take you door to door with no connections which suits families and groups with lots of luggage or people wanting to add a stopover in Vancouver itself.

The Coquihalla Highway is well maintained but climbs over 1,200 m, and snow, ice and poor visisbility are common between November and March. Winter tires are required on the Coquihalla from October 1 to April 30, and Sun Peaks Road is steep and winding. Many visitors book a transfer so they can relax rather than drive it themselves.

About travelling from Vancouver, BC to Sun Peaks Resort, BC

Sun Peaks Resort is 410 km (255 miles) from downtown Vancouver, about 4.5 hours by road. The route runs east on Highway 1 to Hope, over the Coquihalla Highway to Kamloops, then north up Sun Peaks Road to the resort.

Sun Peaks is the second largest ski resort in Canada and a popular winter escape for visitors from the Lower Mainland and further afield. While the closest airports to the resort are Kamloops and Kelowna, many visitors take advantage of the extensive route coverage provided by Vancouver International Airport and use the trip as an opportunity to explore one of Canada’s largest and most vibrant cities.

In winter, the Coquihalla Highway, which sits above 1,200 m, and the steep, winding Sun Peaks Road can both experience extreme weather conditions meaning many prefer to leave the driving to an experienced professional who knows the route. Once you arrive in Sun Peaks, there is little need for a car as the village is compact and walkable, with most accommodation ski in, ski out. In winter, there is a shuttle connecting the neighbourhoods in the resort.

Ridebooker offers a range of vehicles to suit all group sizes including taxis, sedans, SUVs, charter vans and mini buses. A van or mini bus is a great option for groups bringing extra luggage in the form of skis, snowboards, bikes or golf clubs.
